9th June 1984 - Returning to Athens

Saturday 9th June The Limnos was due to leave at 11.00, so I took my time getting up and ready. I spent most of the day on the boat going to Pireas. It wasn’t hazy today – a good day to go mountain climbing.
It wasn’t a very eventful sailing, except that when I got on, there was a flat top truck-type vehicle filled to the brim with goats – two had to hop out and one had his back legs hanging over the tailboard. Poor brutes.
At Pireas I caught the train to Athens. Moving from carriage to carriage was a guy playing guitar and singing “Leavin’ on a Jet Plane” while a girl collected money in a cap.
From Omonia Square I walked to the hostel and stayed up quite late talking with a girl from Melbourne on the way home after spending two years in Dublin (one year studying Irish literature), a South African girl (Afrikaans, such a strange accent), and a guy in the German army.

A Ticket for I know not what
